Our History

Initially established as a charitable institution, the Bishop’s Conservatory School traces its origins back to a benevolent endeavour. Bishop Vincenzo Labini provided the initial funding in 1789, transforming it into an orphanage for girls. Eleven years later, Bishop Pietro Pace entrusted the care of the orphanage to the Sisters of Charity. Under his guidance, the institution evolved to include a college for young girls from affluent families, pioneering as Gozo’s first private secondary school for girls. Following a prolonged period of inactivity, the school received authorization from the Ministry of Education in 1988 to commence primary-level operations, marking a significant revival in its educational journey.

The Gozo Diocese, presently led by His Lordship H.E. Mons. Anton Teuma, holds a significant place in the history and development of the Bishop’s Conservatory Junior School. Established under the auspices of the diocese, the school embodies the values and mission of the Catholic Church in providing quality education to the community. Over the years, the Diocese of Gozo has played a pivotal role in supporting and guiding the school’s growth and evolution. Through its leadership and commitment to education, the diocese has fostered a nurturing environment for the Bishop’s Conservatory Junior School to thrive, ensuring that it continues to uphold its legacy of excellence and service to the community.
